Four new signs welcoming people to the City of New Ulm are now in place. The move to replace the city’s older entrances signs took several years to come to fruition, as well as an online poll on what the new signs should say. The 4 Artstone signs are inscribed with the phrase “Willkommen – New Ulm.” They cost around $60,000 to make, and another $16,000 for their installation. The only part of the project yet to be completed is to illuminate the signs’ lettering. The initial proposal called for back-lit box letters, but that plan cost over $32,000 more than anticipated. The city is now considering whether to use LED floodlights to light the signs or lay LED string lights inside the sign’s letters.
