The Minnesota State Patrol has completed its investigation into a double fatality accident in New Ulm this past July that involved a New Ulm police officer. The accident occurred July 8th on North Garden Street in New Ulm. 82-year-old Myra Meyers of New Ulm was driving a Mercury Sable northbound on Garden Street and was making a left turn into a driveway when her vehicle was struck by a New Ulm Police squad car driven by Patrolman Mathew Rasmussen. Meyers’ passenger, her son 51-year-old Brian Wichmann of Mankato died at the New Ulm Medical Center following the crash. Meyers died at the Hennepin County Medical Center on July 19th. Rasmussen suffered a broken arm. Redwood County Attorney Steve Collins will be reviewing the large report on the crash to avoid any possible conflict-of-interest, and any decision on what actions to take is expected to be made by next week. The report has not been released to the public at this time.
