A new school district is in the process of being born in southern Minnesota. Residents of the Le Center and Montgomery-Lonsdale School Districts voted in June to consolidate the 2 districts and form a new consolidated district which will have an anticipated enrollment of around 1,800 students. Following a lengthy process of gathering student and community feedback, school board members in both districts have approved the name “Tri-City United” for the new district, which opens for business beginning next school year. The district’s nickname will be the Titans. The other choice for a name was the geographically-oriented “Montgomery-Lonsdale-Le Center.” Several other issues must now be resolved before the new district can begin operations, including negotiating new staff contracts and compiling a list of available courses. A consolidated Tri-City United School Board has already been formed.
