The wife of Mankato’s former Public Safety Director has pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft. 65-year-old Mary Huettl had originally been charged with 15 counts of theft for allegedly stealing over $100,000 from her former employer, US Engravers. In court Monday, Huettl admitted to the unauthorized use of a company credit card for an amount just over $1,000. She admitted her guilt by simply answering yes to a series of questions. The plea agreement with Huettl will likely include probation, with no restitution. Sentencing is set for December 20th. Because Huettl’s husband Jerry was Mankato’s former Director of Public Safety, the Blue Earth County Attorney’s Office had Brown County handle the case due to a possible conflict of interest.
