Gaylord Crash Called Hit & Run 29 Oct 11

The Minnesota State Patrol is calling a crash that happened just outside of Gaylord Thursday night an incident of hit and run, and is asking for the public’s help in locating one of the vehicles involved. 29-year-old John Byro of Madelia is in critical condition after his Harley Davidson motorcycle struck the back of an unknown vehicle at the intersection of Highways 5 and 19 at around 10pm Thursday. The other vehicle did not remain at the scene of the crash, but authorities believe the driver knew that something had happened, and they are being sought for questioning. The vehicle is believed to be a light-colored passenger car or SUV, and would likely have damage to it’s rear end or rear quarter-panel. Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has other information on the incident, is asked to contact the State Patrol at (507)389-1172.

There are not enough details. Not knowing where the motorcyle hit the vehicle is a critical piece of the accident investigation.  If the vehicle was stopped to make a turn left onto 19 there is room to go around. If the vehicle turned onto 5 to proceed west he could have cut off the motorcycle. Were there any skid marks? And finally no word on whether Byro was wearing a helmet.
