Firefighters from across Brown County battled a total of 3 field fires Friday afternoon. The fires kept crews from Sleepy Eye, Springfield and New Ulm busy throughout the afternoon as the dry conditions and high winds helped spread the simultaneous blazes north and west of Sleepy Eye. The first fire was reported at about 12:45 Friday afternoon in a field owned by Joe Hacker just east of Evan. About an hour later firefighters were called to a fire in a field owned by Scott Simon three miles north of Sleepy Eye, and shortly after that a third fire was reported in a field owned by Stan Seifert near the Leavenworth silage pit east of Cobden. Firefighters were battling these fires until around 4:30 p-m Friday. No injuries have been reported.
