The construction of a new public library for the City of Fairfax is underway, along with the renovation of a former bank into a new city hall. Excavation work on the future home of the new Fairfax Library began last week, with concrete work now expected to begin this week. The new library is being built at the site of the former Weir Hotel, and is expected to cost Fairfax over $500,000. The project is scheduled to be completed in time for the library’s Summer Celebration next year. The former First National Bank building will become the new Fairfax City Hall as well. Work is expected to begin on that project this week, and will cost the city around $300,000.
