A special primary election is being held in Watonwan County this coming Tuesday to fill a vacant county board seat. The First District Watonwan County Board seat, which lies completely in the City of Madelia, is open following the death of Commissioner Dwayne Krenz. A total of 4 candidates filed for the seat. Raymond Gustafson is a farmer and substitute teacher at Madelia Schools who has lived in Watonwan County for 46 years. Lawrence Peterson is a retired truck and school bus driver who has lived in the county for 78 years. Bruce Young is the Madelia City Attorney and has been a resident of the community for nearly 35 years, and John Hoeft is a lifelong resident of Watonwan County. The polls for Tuesday’s Primary are open from 7am to 8pm at the Madelia VFW-American Legion, and absentee ballots will be available at the Watonwan County Auditor’s Office from 8am to 5pm on Monday. Following the Primary, the special election for the seat will be held on November 29th. The winner will begin their duties on the first Monday in January.
