Demand is up at the Redwood Area Food Shelf, and supplies are down, so the public is being asked for help. Many food shelves around the area have seen near-record usage this summer, including in Redwood County. Financial donations to the food shelf go the furthest, because for every dollar that is donated they can buy about $9 worth of food through government supported programs and distributor deals. Donations can be brought directly to the Redwood Area Food Shelf on East 2nd Street in Redwood Falls. Food items they are currently in need of include: instant potatoes, canned ham, tuna or chicken, rice, juice, peanut butter, canned stew, chili, spaghetti and soup, dried peas and beans, pancake and muffins mixes, and canned fruits and vegetables.
