The Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of around $30,000 worth of pigs from a farm south of Lafayette. The crime was reported on Friday. The farmer had cleaned out all of the market-sized pigs from 4 large barns, and after doing a count realized that a total of 150 pigs were missing. Nicollet County Investigator Marc Chadderdon says that led them to talk to other members of the pork industry to try to determine where the stolen pigs may have been taken. He says that a hog farm near Nicollet was broken into in mid-August as well, but none of those younger pigs were taken. The next day, however, more than $100,000 worth of market-ready pigs were taken from a farm in Kandiyohi County. It is unknown if those crimes are related to the latest pig thefts. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Chadderdon at (507)931-1570.
