The City of New Ulm’s free cultural event and festival at the river, Riverblast, gets underway Friday. Co-Organizer Scott Sparlin says the annual event is a celebration of the Minnesota River. Riverblast 2011 opens at 5pm Friday at Riverside Park in New Ulm, and continues all day Saturday. Musical entertainment this year includes Lucky Jones and the Ramblin’ Gamblers, Big Walter Smith and the Groove Merchants, the Little Prairie Pickers, Beg For Justice, One Fast Move, the Everett Smithson Band, and Howard “Guitar” Luedtke and Blue Max. Other activities include watershed information, horse-drawn trolley rides, kids activities, food and beverages, and more. Camping in Riverside Park opens at 5pm today (THU) as well on a first-come, first-serve basis.
