The trial of a Burnsville man accused of killing his ex-wife in a Mankato park last year is scheduled to get underway this week. Jury selection begins today (MON) in Blue Earth County for the trial of 35-year-old Joel Marvin Munt. He faces the possibility of life in prison for allegedly shooting Svetlana Munt to death in the parking lot of Mankato’s Rasmussen Woods while the couple’s 3 young children watched. Last week Judge Kurt Johnson ruled that one of the children would be allowed to testify in the homicide trial. The boy was 5 at the time of the killing. He will testify from another room to minimize any trauma, and the testimony will be televised into the trial courtroom. Munt’s attorney has requested a change of venue, but Judge Johnson ruled that the issue would be decided during the jury selection process.
