The murder trial of a Burnsville man accused of killing his ex-wife in a Mankato parking lot continued on Monday, with the state calling a total of 9 witnesses. Testimony on Monday centered around claims by Joel Marvin Munt that Svetlana Munt had been abusing the couple’s 3 young children prior to being shot to death at Mankato’s Rasmussen Woods last year. Munt faces life in prison on a 1st-degree murder charge. Svetlana Munt’s mother and friends were in court Monday, and denied the abuse allegations made against her. Testimony from Joel Munt’s fiancé reportedly cast doubts on Svetlana’s fitness as a parent, however, and echoed Joel Munt’s claims of child abuse. The trial is now in recess until Wednesday, when the defense is expected to call their first witnesses. The jury is expected to begin deliberation by the end of the week.
