A special election will be held to fill a vacant Martin County Commissioner position after the previous holder of the seat pleaded guilty to felony theft. The Martin County Board accepted the resignation of District 1 Commissioner Gerald Boler on Tuesday after he entered the guilty plea in court September 8th. Boler was accused of double-billing the county for more than $1,100 in reimbursements from attending conferences over a 3 year period. He served as a Martin County Commissioner for 10 years. The filing period to fill Boler’s seat will run from October 11th through the 25th. If a primary is needed it will be held December 20th, with the special election then taking place February 14th. The seat will then be on the ballot during the general election next November as well. Martin County’s District 1 covers the eastern portion of the county, including Truman, Granada, East Chain and the northeast section of Fairmont.
