The 3 young children of a man charged with murdering his ex-wife in Mankato in front of them were questioned by a Blue Earth County judge on Thursday. 35-year-old Joel Marvin Munt is accused of shooting Svetlana Munt to death in the parking lot of Mankato’s Rasmussen Woods in March of 2010. He allegedly used an SUV to pin the woman’s car against a tree and then shot her before taking the children out of her car and stealing another vehicle at gunpoint. The children were with him when the vehicle was stopped and he was arrested south of Mankato. Judge Kurt Johnson privately questioned the children in court on Thursday to determine if they are competent to testify during their father’s trial. A decision on that issue, and whether to move Munt’s September 12th trial to another county, has not been made at this time.
