An Elk River man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in her Kasota apartment last year makes an appearance in court today (TUE) prior to his trial getting underway next month. 24-year-old Tyler Andrew Wicklund is charged with first-degree pre-meditated murder and first-degree murder while committing criminal sexual conduct for the death of 20-year-old Jessica Buboltz on October 29th. He was allegedly upset over the couple’s recent break-up when he slit her throat and took their 14-month-old daughter to his grandmother’s home. He was arrested later that day, and the child was unharmed. In June a judge granted a delay in Wicklund’s trial to allow his public defender more time to prepare his defense. He’ll be in court for an omnibus hearing today, and the trial is set to begin on October 10th. Wicklund faces the possibility of life in prison.
