The Brown County Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a proposed tax levy increase for next year of 1%. The small increase was seen as a way for the county to maintain it’s financial reserves as well as to help Brown County residents who are having a hard time meeting expenses. Some members of the Board said they preferred no levy increase, but agreed to the 1% hike, which can still be lowered but can go no higher. The proposed tax levy and budget for 2012 will be reviewed further this Fall, and a public hearing will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, November 29th at the Brown County Courthouse. Final approval would then take place on December 13th.
