Blue Earth County has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources to purchase 41-acres of public land off the Red Jacket Trail. The Blue Earth County Board had previously approved the use of $25,000 in county funds towards the land purchase, contingent on receiving the DNR grant. The county’s share will come primarily from property tax revenue. The parcel was appraised at over $103,000 last year. The newly-acquired public land will likely be kept as a natural area, rather than made into a formal park.
