Truman Boy Badly Burned 27 Aug 11

A 12-year-old Truman boy is expected to be hospitalized for the next 4 months after suffering burns on over 60% of his body last week. Alex Mendenhall, the Son of Cindy Treider and Sam Mendenhall, was severely burned when a can of paint reducer thrown into a fire ring blew up. He is being treated at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Mendenhall has undergone three surgeries so far to remove the burned skin. The worst of the burns occurred on his torso, upper arms and legs. He will likely remain in the hospital until at least December. Several fundraisers are being planned in Truman to help the family with medical expenses. This Sunday there will be a bake sale from 12 to 2 at Graf Park in Truman. The Truman Fire Department is holding a raffle as well, and on September 24th there will be a motorcycle and bike run and benefit. Donations can also be made at Bank Midwest.
