A train destroyed a semi trailer in a collision just east of Madelia Monday morning.
It happened at approximately 8am on 290th Street near the intersection of Highway 60. The driver of the grain semi, Kenneth Pufpaff of Le Sueur had just unloaded at the Crystal Valley Co-Op Elevator and was heading south while crossing the tracks when he was hit by the eastbound Union Pacific train.
The truck’s trailer was totally destroyed and the tractor sustained moderate damage. The train took only minor damage. There were no injuries.
The Madelia Police and Fire Departments and the Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office assisted the State Patrol at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
