An 18-year-old college student from Morrison County is the new Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Mary Zahurones of Pierz was crowned the 58th Princess Kay Wednesday night at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. She says she looks forward to spending the next year as the official goodwill ambassador for Minnesota’s nearly 4,500 dairy farmers. Zahurones will attend the U-of-M Twin Cities this fall as a pre-med student. As 1 of her first official duties she will have her likeness carved in a 90-pound block of AMPI butter on the opening day of the State Fair today (THU). Twelve county dairy princesses competed for the Princess Kay title. This year’s runners-up are Stephanie Kasper of Owatonna, and Theresa Twohey of Stewartville. Of the 6 local-area girls in the running for Princess Kay, Scholarships were awarded to April Johnson of Heron Lake and Emily Krekelberg of Le Sueur.
