A trial has been set for December for a Vernon Center man accused of sexually assaulting a girl after being pardoned in 2008 for a 1996 sexual assault conviction.
During a pre-trial hearing Monday for Jeremy Giefer, his attorney Mark Kelly said DNA evidence taken from Giefer’s house raises questions about the victim’s allegations.
The 14 year old girl told a school official and Blue Earth County sheriff’s investigators she had been sexually assaulted by Giefer numerous times over several years.Kelly said DNA samples gathered from Giefer’s house included DNA from a third person, but not a victim.
However, Blue Earth County Attorney Mike Hanson said DNA found support allegations which charged Giefer with 24 felony counts of criminal sexual conduct.
District Court Judge Bradley Walker set December 19 as the trial’s start date. It is estimated the trial will take four or five days.
