A 24-year-old man was killed in an accident at a gravel pit southwest of Fairfax Tuesday afternoon. The industrial accident happened at just after Noon in a gravel pit along 610th Avenue Southwest near Fairfax. The unidentified worker had become entangled in a moving conveyor belt and had suffered an amputation. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene the man was no longer entangled in the machine, but was not breathing and had no pulse. Efforts to resuscitate him failed, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is being investigated by the Renville County Sheriff’s Office and the Mine Safety and Health Administration. The name of the victim is expected to be released later today (WED).
